Poverty implies food insecurity, which can have health consequences. This food insecurity is beginning to spread to other segments of the population. Poverty is not a concept, but a reality shared by several million people in the world, in Burundi in particular.
Children living in poverty are more likely to encounter obstacles in accessing goods and services essential for their well-being and development (such as education, health care, adequate food, decent housing or more childcare services). Nutrition is a food challenge and stunting clearly reflects social inequalities and highlights the poverty and underdevelopment of certain countries.
It is important to emphasize that improving nutrition, especially of children and women, is increasingly becoming an imperative for reducing poverty.
